Scientists Test Sonic Levitation
Researchers at the Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi’an, China have successfully developed a device that uses sound waves to levitate small objects and animals. The device consists of two main sections, the sound wave emitter and reflector. Many other animals were tested as well, including ladybugs, spiders and tadpoles. The device has also been tested on levitating Mercury and Iridium - the heaviest known solid and liquid, respectively. Unfortunately, the fish that was tested perished during the experiment - but all of the other tested organisms survived. Currently, the scientists are working on a way to ensure the hatching of eggs during levitation.
